Prior to being selected as a PEXIM Foundation scholar, Iva graduated as summa cum laude from the University of Maine. She earned a degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish Language. She was a trustee of the International Student Tuition Scholarship, the Natural Sciences, Forestry and Agriculture Scholarship, as well as the President Winthrop C. Libby / Reverend Pavlos T. Taiganides Award. This award is given for extraordinary contributions to international relations throughout the University of Maine community including participation in student activities, scholastic achievements and moral leadership. Iva is a member of Phi Beta Kappa - First National Honor Society and Pi Mu Epsilon-Mathematical Honor Society. Iva was a Vice President of International Student Association and a member of International Dance Festival and ‘Culture Fest’, events that invite students to educate and display their culture to the community at large. Iva worked as Resident Assistant, a Learning Assistant for General Chemistry and Pre-Calculus, and well as Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry.
